The residents of Maine are nearly as rugged as the dramatic cliffs that define the state. Maine residents have a strong connection to the ocean, relying on it for much of their industry. While they work hard during the say, Mainers know how to have a good time. The Northern reaches of the state are the domain of Mother Nature. Pristine forests carpet the land, offering the perfect adventure for intrepid nature lovers.

Couples should start their search for a Maine wedding venue in the state’s two biggest cities. Portland and Augusta will offer the most choices and make it easy to accommodate out-of-town friends and family.

One thing Maine has in spades is beautiful old hotels, man of which are perched on cliffs, offering dramatic photo opportunities. Just be aware that historic buildings are usually smaller than modern-day hotels or resorts, so a big wedding party may not fit.

If you’ve always dreamed of hosting a huge ceremony with all your friends and family present, then look into a barn or farm wedding. Outside the cities, you can find many New England farms to host your ceremony, and you may even be able to save a little on your wedding budget.
